Collection: Listrac-Medoc
One of the six municipalities (along with Margaux, Moulis, Pauillac, Saint-Estèphe and Saint-Julien) within the French region of Haut-Médoc that are separate appellations and are allowed to have the municipality name on the bottle label. The vineyards cover 640 hectares of vineyards. The name Listrac was supplemented with Médoc in 1986 to avoid confusion with the similar-sounding Lirac region in the Rhône Valley. The area between Margaux and Saint-Julien lies a little further back from the Gironde and has heavier soils. There are none of the 61 châteaux here that were included in the Grand Cru list in the Bordeaux classification in 1855.
Almost 30 wineries are classified as Cru Bourgeois and a dozen as Cru Artisan. The red wines in the typical Bordeaux blend (left bank of the Gironde) made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot develop somewhat more quickly than in other communities. Well-known wineries are Château Clarke, Château Fonréaud, Château Fourcas-Dupré, Château Fourcas-Hosten and Château Peyre-Lebade.
